Tick Shield Body Spray

Tick Shield is a plant-based, non-toxic spray that is safe for the whole family and effective at repelling ticks, mosquitoes, and biting flies. This product was especially created to be sprayed onto the skin as a repellent. DEET is toxic and should not be sprayed onto your largest body organ---the skin. This natural spray is safe to use on your skin and it even smells good! 

Ingredients: American beautyberry (Callicarpa americana) extract, Rose Geranium (Pelargonium asperum), Lemon Eucalyptus (Corymbia citriodora), Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia), Organic Cane Alcohol, Distilled water. 

American beautyberry repels ticks because its leaves contain volatile terpenoid compounds that interfere with how ticks detect and attach to a host. Researchers with the USDA isolated several active compounds from the leaves, especially: Callicarpenal, Intermedeol, spathulenol. These plant chemicals are naturally produced by the plant as defense molecules against insects and arthropods. Ticks locate hosts using chemical cues (odor), body heat, and carbon dioxide. Beautyberry compounds disrupt that process to shield us from ticks!

Rose Geranium essential oil is a highly effective, natural repellent against ticks, including the lone star tick, with some studies showing over 90% efficacy. It works by masking the scents and heat signatures that ticks use to find hosts. It is a safe, plant-based alternative to DEET. 

Lavender essential oil contains 

Linalool that interacts with insect nervous systems, which insects perceive as irritating and therefore helps to further repel ticks and insects. 

Research shows these plants are as effective as DEET, but since they don't contain synthetic compounds like DEET sprays, you will need to re-apply every 3-4 hours.
