Functional Mushroom Info:
Turkey Tail is one of the best-studied medicinal mushrooms, valued for its immune-modulating and anticancer properties. Its polysaccharopeptides (PSK and PSP) are used as official cancer adjuncts in Asia, where clinical evidence shows they can improve survival and reduce recurrence. Beyond oncology, it supports gut health, viral defense, and overall immune resilience.
Reishi is one of the most respected tonic herbs in the world, valued for its ability to support the immune system, calm the mind, and promote longevity. Modern research supports many of its traditional uses, especially in immune modulation, liver health, and adjunctive cancer care. It is best used long-term as a gentle adaptogen and wellness tonic, often in dual-extract form for maximum benefits.
Cordyceps is a powerful adaptogen and performance-enhancing medicinal mushroom, long prized in TCM as a tonic for the lungs, kidneys, energy, and vitality. Modern research supports its role in improving oxygen utilization, enhancing endurance, modulating immunity, protecting the kidneys, and reducing inflammation. Cultivated forms are widely used and considered safe, though quality sourcing is crucial.
Chaga is a birch-dwelling medicinal fungus renowned in Siberian and Northern European traditions as a longevity tonic and immune modulator. Modern research supports its antioxidant, immune-stimulating, and anticancer potential, though human trials remain limited. Best used as a daily tea or dual extract for overall vitality, digestive support, and immune resilience — not as a stand-alone treatment for serious disease.
Lion’s Mane is a culinary-medicinal mushroom with unique nerve-regenerating compounds (hericenones & erinacines). Traditionally a digestive tonic, it’s now most valued for neuroprotection, cognitive health, mood support, and gut-brain benefits. Research in humans is still early but promising, especially for mild cognitive decline, anxiety, and digestive support. One study showed with daily supplementation to significantly improved cognitive scores, visual memory, and recall in older adults with mild cognitive impairment—and it even slowed cognitive deterioration. In healthy young persons an acute cross-over trial found improved executive function, working memory, reaction time, and overall processing speed just 90 minutes after taking lion’s mane extract. It was also shown to reduce stress and enhance mood.
